Springtime is here, and with it comes a fresh, new energy that's perfect for capturing beautiful family memories. As a photographer, I'm always looking for ways to help families create and preserve these special moments, especially when the world is in full bloom.
Finding the Perfect Setting
Spring in Southern California is truly a gift. The days grow longer, the air fills with the sweet scent of flowers, and the world seems to come alive. This is the ideal time to take advantage of the beautiful backdrops all around us. Lifestyle photography is all about capturing your family's story as it naturally unfolds—whether it's the quiet moments of a picnic in the park or the joyful chaos of a beach day.
In Long Beach, we are spoiled with so many scenic spots. Just a stone's throw from my studio in Belmont Shore, the Colorado Lagoon offers a serene setting where kids can feed the birds. For a more vibrant and urban vibe, Second Street is perfect for families who want a fresh, hip feel. You can also explore the calm waters of Mothers Beach by the Naples Canal or one of the many lush parks, like Livingston Park or El Dorado Nature Center. Each of these spots provides a unique canvas for your family's story.
Creating Meaningful Traditions
Think of your family photo session as more than just a picture—it’s an opportunity to create a new tradition. Planning your session around a fun springtime activity makes it feel like an adventure, not a chore. Here are some of my favorite ideas for capturing authentic moments:
- Planting a garden: Let your kids get their hands dirty planting flowers, veggies, or herbs. The photos will be a sweet reminder of their little green thumbs.
- A springtime picnic: Spread a blanket, pack some snacks, and simply enjoy being together. These candid moments are often the most genuine.
- Hunting for seashells or building sandcastles: A classic beach day is a perfect backdrop for capturing carefree moments and creating beautiful, lasting memories.
- Making flower crowns: This simple, creative activity is a wonderful way to capture your child's personality and imagination.
By choosing an activity your family loves, you'll be able to relax and let your true personalities shine, resulting in photos that are full of life and emotion.
Preserving Your Memories
After we've captured your family's story, it's time to bring those moments to life. I believe that photographs should be more than just digital files—they should be tangible pieces of art that you can touch and display in your home.
I'm so excited to share our new art product, the Lagniappe. This Louisiana French word means "a little something extra," and it's the perfect way to describe this unique piece. Your favorite photo is transformed into a stunning, vintage-inspired art piece on archival canvas, framed with reclaimed wood and accented with jute and copper. It’s a beautiful way to ensure your family’s memories are not only preserved but are also displayed as the works of art they are.
Taking the time to plan ahead and embrace the natural beauty of the season can turn a simple photo shoot into a treasured family tradition.
What is your family's favorite springtime activity? I would love to hear about it and help you turn those moments into art.
