A Modern Guide to What to Wear for Your Photoshoot

Your photoshoot is a chance to capture beautiful memories, and choosing the right wardrobe can make all the difference. Here’s an updated guide with some quick dos and don'ts to help you look and feel your best.

Wardrobe Dos & Don’ts

DO:

  • Coordinate, Don’t Match: Choose a color palette that complements each family member rather than putting everyone in the exact same outfit.

  • Comfort is Key: Wear clothes that fit well and feel comfortable. When you're relaxed, it shows in your photos.

  • Layer Up: Bring at least two wardrobe changes and use layers and accessories to add variety and depth to your look.

  • Mindful Jewelry: Select a few meaningful or understated pieces of jewelry.

  • Shoe Smarts: Bring comfortable footwear, or be prepared to go barefoot for a more natural feel.

DON'T:

  • Avoid Uniforms: Steer clear of having every family member wear the same outfit.

  • Skip Distractions: Avoid heavy patterns, large logos, or neon colors that can pull focus away from you.

  • Ditch the Baggy Clothes: Overly baggy or loose clothing can hide your shape and detract from the final image.

  • Leave the Big Stuff at Home: Don't wear distracting jewelry or giant watches.

  • No Sparkle: Avoid shiny, shimmery, or sparkly makeup.

More Helpful Tips for a Perfect Photoshoot

Get Ready to Glow:

  • Sleep Well: A good night's sleep reduces puffy eyes and dark circles.

  • Exfoliate: Gently exfoliate the night before your session to give your skin a fresh, healthy glow. If you tend to get red, be sure to do this ahead of time.

  • Moisturize & Hydrate: Hydrate from the inside out by drinking plenty of water the day before and the morning of your session. Avoid alcohol, which can dehydrate your skin.

Styling & Makeup:

  • Stay Natural: Stick to natural, neutral colors for your nails and makeup—less is often more.

  • Bring a Touch-Up Kit: If your skin tends to get shiny, bring a translucent powder with you for quick touch-ups.

  • Hair Prep: For a natural, soft look, try using soft curlers on clean hair the night before your session.

  • Undergarments Matter: Nude-colored undergarments are best to avoid any visible lines or colors. Choose shaping garments that enhance your outfit without being uncomfortable.

Before You Arrive:

  • Eat Up: Don't show up hungry! Make sure everyone, especially the kids, has a good snack or meal beforehand to keep spirits high.

  • Relax and Enjoy: Give yourself plenty of time before your session so you don't feel rushed or stressed. Make a day of it and have fun getting ready!

You're now ready to look and feel fabulous for your photoshoot! Do you have a specific style or location in mind for your session?
