The Ultimate Guide to a "Trash the Dress" Session

A "trash the dress" session is an incredible way to capture the magic of your love story in a fun, relaxed, and unconventional setting. Whether you’re looking to get a little wild after your wedding or you eloped and didn’t get a chance to take professional photos, these sessions are a fantastic alternative to traditional wedding portraits.

What is a "Trash the Dress" Session?

This type of photoshoot is all about celebrating your love in a unique way. It's an opportunity to create stunning, one-of-a-kind images without the pressure or formality of a wedding day. You can be playful and daring, from walking barefoot on a beach to jumping in a lake—the only limit is your imagination. While the name suggests "trashing" the dress, it doesn't mean you have to ruin it. It's more about freeing yourself from the formality of the day and allowing yourself to be in the moment.

Benefits of a "Trash the Dress" Session

  • You'll have incredible, one-of-a-kind photos. Traditional wedding photos are beautiful, but these sessions capture a different kind of magic. They're raw, authentic, and truly yours.

  • It's a chance to truly relax and have fun. The pressure is off. You're not on a timeline, and there's no long list of family photos to get through. This freedom allows you and your partner to truly be yourselves and enjoy the moment.

  • It’s a perfect way to celebrate your elopement. If you chose to elope, you may not have had professional photos taken. This session is a wonderful opportunity to have beautiful, high-quality images of your special connection.

  • You can wear your wedding attire again. Instead of keeping your beautiful dress and suit in the back of your closet, you get to wear them one more time and create more lasting memories.

  • It’s an unforgettable experience. These sessions are not just about the photos; they’re an adventure. It’s a chance to do something a little wild and spontaneous with the person you love most.

Tips for Planning Your Session

  • Pick a unique location. Think outside the box! A waterfall, a city street, a beautiful field, or an old, abandoned building can all make for stunning backdrops.

  • Don't be afraid to get a little dirty. Embrace the elements. The best shots often come from a little bit of mud, water, or sand.

  • Communicate with your photographer. Make sure you share your vision for the session. A good photographer will help you brainstorm ideas and locations that align with your style.

  • Consider your attire. While the goal is to wear your wedding dress and suit, you may want to bring a backup or an alternative outfit if you plan to get messy.

A "trash the dress" session is a fantastic way to celebrate your love story in a way that feels authentic and true to you as a couple. It’s an investment in memories you'll cherish for a lifetime and a chance to do something a little different and daring.

Let's Make A Splash!

This session was all about enjoying each other and relieving some of the joys of Chris and Melinda's wedding day that took place THREE years ago at sea! Yes, you got it right THREE years ago....Melinda said to me that she always wanted to do a "trash the dress" session but never had the time. Life together has been amazing for these two love birds and now with a job promotion that is having them pack and move out of state, Melinda thought perhaps there is no better time than now to put on her dress and have a fun date with her husband. What a great idea Melinda! And like you said now you don't have to pack the dress! :)

Thank you Chris and Melinda...this was a fantastic farewell adventure.

Much love,

M
